Overview
This redesign initiative targeted an application serving over 100,000 users. The app enables shopkeepers in South African townships to offer services like electricity, airtime, and data sales.
The primary objective focused on enhancing usability to create a more intuitive interface suited to traders' needs.
Research
Initial desk research faced data limitations. The team examined the existing application using usability heuristics, then conducted field testing in townships to identify what functioned effectively.
Through interviews and testing, researchers discovered that users were highly familiar with Material Design components through WhatsApp usage on Android devices, informing the design language.

Iconography
Researchers conducted association tests where users connected icons to words using printed materials, removing screen-based distractions to understand intuitive connections.

Collaboration
The team coordinated with Flash's branding department on visual direction, balancing client business requirements, UX improvements, and marketing considerations.
